PeakView® includes a powerful electromagnetic (EM) solver that utilizes multi-core processors to perform fast, multi-threaded simulations. The solver is capable of running simultaneous simulations on different cells, and the speed increase with the number of cores is almost linear thanks to the use of the multi-threading option. Users have access to two high-performance EM solvers (FlatLEM and HCS), dedicated to different applications while maintaining the same level of accuracy.
PeakView® EM Solver Options
Direct FlatLEM Solver
- PeakView® FlatLEM is an unique direct solver that provides the best accuracy and most reliable results by solving the linear system with a full matrix.
- FlatLEM does not have any port limitation handling more than 10,000 ports with a constant solving time per frequency.
Iterative High-Capacity Solver (HCS)
- PeakView® HCS is an iterative EM solver to handle large-scale simulations with million number of unknowns (full-chip simulations, brute-force metalfills extraction, IC-PKG co-sim, etc.).
- It uses matrix compression to save memory and improve performance, and its speed is significantly improved for larger problems (>2M unknowns) by dramatically reducing the null space formulation time.
- HCS was developed benchmarked against the direct FlatLEM solver, which ensures the same lever of accuracy.

PeakView® Distributed Computing Capabilities
-
- PeakView® supports LSF and NC-based computing farm for distributed computing, which allows the EM simulation job of different frequencies to be submitted to different computers to be solved in parallel.
- Distributed computing massively improves the simulation speed. For instance, 30 frequencies can be simulated in 10 machines at the same time reducing the simulation time by 10x.

High-Performance EM Solver Capabilities
Charge-free Speedup
- By mathematically reducing the system matrix size for charge panels that are known to have zero charges, we can achieve major speedup.
- This is especially important for high-frequency applications where volume currents simulations are citical.
Computational speedup (QuickEM)
- quickEM allows users for a 50% reduction of system matrix storage and solving time while maintaining high DC-to-mmwave accuracy. The incorporated computational algorithm that can reduce the condition number of problems.
- PeakView ensures that all observed cases achieve the same results with and without quickEM.
Hybrid GPU/CPU Solver
- Accurate EM simulations usually take time, so PeakView® implements a hybrid solver arrangement GPU/CPU that leverages the latest GPU cards to massively accelerate EM simulations reducing the time-to-market and design iterations.
- Professional Nvidia DGX GPU cards have registered speed improvements of up to ~9.8x compared to regular CPU-based machines, and up to ~5x acceleration was produced by the recently released Nvidia RTX GPU cards.
