PeakView HFD Critical Interconnect EM Extraction & Modeling Most high-frequency designers are intimately involved with the layout and modeling of high-frequency interconnect structures. PeakView HFD is an interconnect design tool that is used at early stages of layout/placement, long before DRC/LVS after which normal parasitic extraction tools can be utilized. Working directly from inside the Cadence layout environment, PeakView HFD quickly extracts an EM-accurate parasitic models of selected critical interconnect structures. The designer quickly assesses the impact of EM inductive and capacitive effects, including substrate losses, on individual groups of critical interconnect. Catching these errors early-on during early layout/placement is easier to optimize circuit performance and area.
Each interconnect coupling group is evaluated as a potential sources of EM coupling that would significantly degrade circuit performance. For each interconnect coupling group, PeakView HFD creates an EM-accurate RCLK model and automatically updates the schematic and Spectre simulation netlist accordingly. Using this approach, the designer systematically evaluates each critical interconnect coupling group for EM impact on circuit performance. Armed with these data, changes to the EM isolation and/or circuit compensation changes can be made to avoid taping out with these hidden EM integrity flaws, thereby, saving time and money.
